Manhole Covers

  1. Those are really neat. The town of Eureka California had such interesting manhole covers (last time we were there, quite a few years ago now) that they sold them in a city gift shop, trying to keep people from stealing them I guess.

    1. I can't image wanting to own a manhole cover, unless you also had a tunnel needing an entrance. Eureka must have amazing art on their covers.

  2. So electricity is round and telephone is square. As so often a very nice diptych.

    1. I've been thinking of all those underground utilities we take so much for granted. There is a whole world down there of tunnels and pipes, and so long as they work, we never give them a thought. I also noticed the round and square pattern, and perhaps it is a code for what utility lies below the surface. Manhole covers are a entrances into a dark world.

  3. See, now I would like to own an manhole cover. I do not own any tunnels that need covering but people don't need to know that fact. The mystery of what is underneath would be fun enough.

    1. Given your rock subsurface, you could dig some interesting tunnels, but you can't go too deep or you hit water. You might be able to order an interesting manhole cover from Eureka, CA, or perhaps design your own and have it cast at the Brillion Iron Works, Brillion, WI.

    2. I dont see why I would design my own. Afterall I would just end up using an old school design. Because that is what a manhole cover should look like after all.
