Shops at La Cantera


If these clothes had been displayed in a Brooks Brothers window sixty years ago, they would not have looked out of place. Even the window dressing is pre-digital age. This year the entire University of Texas library is available on line. They no longer circulate books.

Red Barn and Animals


Barns are disappearing from the landscape because fewer and fewer farms raise animals. There are fewer and fewer farms. Agricultural land is now all about raising grain, and barns are replaced by machine sheds.

Red Barns


The tradition of red barns on farms began because red oxide paint was less expensive than other colors. It was made from linseed oil and iron oxide. This mixture provided protection for the wooden barns. It was either this, or the National Geographic paid to have a splash of red in their landscapes.
